Tadpole Update: Pond Life

"The larval stage of large dragonflies may last as long as five years. In smaller species, this stage may last between two months and three years. When the larva is ready to metamorphose into an adult, it climbs up a reed or other emergent plant. Exposure to air causes the larva to begin breathing. The skin splits at a weak spot behind the head and the adult dragonfly crawls out of its larval skin, pumps up its wings, and flies off to feed on midges and flies. In flight the adult dragonfly can propel itself in six directions; upward, downward, forward, back, and side to side.[6] The adult stage of larger species of dragonfly can last as long as five or six months." We're home now, from Maker Faire, and once again I feel transformed, reformed, inspired, and recharged. I also feel like taking a long nap. Goodness, have we ever had a time!

Maria and I are collecting state plates... seen as we drive around. We've quite a few. Still looking for most of the South and Midwest. Lots of Colorados. Never ceases to amuse me how easily I am amused.

We need summer!

Maria left school in tears... some kind of frustration over the game of kickball, a game she still feels confused about. She's also having bff problems. So much emotional trauma and angst! Between sobs I heard, "... and she said... then she said, and now she won't, and I can't... I don't know what to do." This went on for an hour. She even cries about crying too much. Poor dear. Hugs, and rocking, and listening. But my best answer, is don't worry, summer is almost here.

Maria is in the middle of STAR testing, and in love with a new resident.

Alex is preparing for finals, and distracted by a new resident.

William and Geoff are finishing roof sections, and cautious of the new resident.

Max has been reading the Odyssey, to the new resident.

I am thinking of everything I need to accomplish, and laughing at myself for inviting this new resident into our BirdHouse!
