This is My New Year Day... A Whole New Era!

Happy Inauguration Day!

10:00 a.m. PST
Proud, proud day.

I cannot think... it's all emotion and joyful tears.
I think of a favorite poem:

Outwitted

He drew a circle that shut me out—
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But Love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in!

--Edwin Markham

It does not reflect the entire day or all my feelings, but it reminds me of a piece of the tapestry... "our patchwork heritage..." that is our history and our strength... and the words challenge me and give me courage.

A happy day for us... especially nice because most of the world is happy for us, too.

Woo hoo, Natalie! What a wonderful, wonderful day!
We started watching the telly an hour ago and we'll be pretty much stuck there all day.
How amazing to feel part of it. I do feel like he's our president as well, even though I'm Australian. The world needs him!

I will reserve judgement. Remember some of us did not vote for this change. = ) I hope he lives up to all the hype! Capitalism rocks!

I wasn't sure when the election was final, I'm not sure now. We, the American people needed a change and a new hope - I think we have it. Only time will tell, but personally, I think we are on the right track.

Happy Inauguration Day indeed!

I am a Canadian citizen and have lived in the US for 9 years. My husband is American and so are my children. I am grateful to live in this country and overjoyed with the hope and optimism that this new President brings. I cant tell you how badly I wanted to vote in this election. This week I have finally filled out the paperwork for my US citizenship. Its a good day and I am proud to be a part of it.

Awesome poem, Natalie. We share your joy today. What a relief to contemplate not having to struggle against our government on a daily basis. Here's to a future we all can share and build!

Hearing him say "patchwork" in that context made me feel even more connected to him, somehow.

I have always been interested in politics but this is the first time that I have felt like I have a connection to the President! Great day!
