Red Snapper, Jade, and The Cotton Ball... and Gratitude

Title? Just a few notes to remind me about what we've been up to today.

We have been making our way down Coast Highway 1, which is easily one of the best and most awesomest trips in the world. We ate a homey-bakery-quichy breakfast in the misty-mist of the coast redwoods.

Then we hiked The Mine before deciding that sheer cliffs and crumbling paths were not suited for us, so we continued south to Willow Creek which was totally ideal... beautiful and safe. It was at the creek mouth, where it meets the Pacific, that we saw the red snapper... kayaking fishermen were bringing in a righteous haul. I have some good pictures for them.

We did a little rock hounding in the creek and along the shore.

Mustn't forget the Elephant Seals... had to stop and check them out. Amazing, massive creatures.

The misty-mist cleared just long enough to reveal Hearst's Castle... away above San Simeon, a Shangrila in the clouds.

And finally, I got to visit The Cotton Ball, a long time favorite quilt shop in Morro Bay.

Last night we stayed up kind of late, mostly just laughing. We were digesting a marvelous Nepenthe dinner, and relaxing after many hours spent swimming, and learning to swim, in the pool. Swimming pool in the redwoods = Amazing! I read aloud, until two were asleep, two were in suspense, and I was unable to keep my eyes open.

I cannot believe we are missing Comic-Con... which is really just too silly and greedy of me, but FB is full of friends, fun, and frivolity from our favorite local Geek Festival, so it is a bit hard to bear. Actually, I kind of love it when my woes and despair are minor and inconsequential.

Van full of my favorite people, a camera, views, nature, laughter, and the happy anticipation of returning home? This is a good life.

I love that trip too, but haven't been able to do it in too many years. Since I'm now up here in Oregon, I try to make a short trip to the coast every year or so. I do love the ruggedness.

Maybe a good thing you missed Comic-Con, there seems to have been a bit of a ruckus there - a fight and a stabbing!! As soon as I heard about it on the news, I was hoping that you guys weren't any where near it. Well, you obviously weren't. LOL
