Chicken Socks

Presenting:
The post where I tackle the tough questions about DIY Chicken Socks.

You've wondered, maybe all your life:
Can I color on a tube sock, with fabric markers, and make my very own, custom Chicken Sock?

Maybe you were too shy to ask.

Maybe you have more sense than me, the Chickenblogger.

Maybe you don't wear socks.

Maybe you don't read Chickenblog, but then how do you explain this: You are reading Chickenblog!

Sorry. Where was I ?

The other day I grabbed a rag sock from the laundry room, and fished around in a box of markers, so that I could answer a question that occurred to me five minutes earlier: Would it be too weird to use fabric markers on stretchy and ribbed fabric?
Or... would it be just weird enough?

The hard part was drawing upside-sideways, since I decided it would work best to draw while wearing, and stretching the sock. Of course, to be truly scientific about this, I should test it both ways: drawing on a loose sock, then putting it on.

Maybe there is no difference.

Maybe the difference is huge and highly significant... we just don't know! We need the scientific method! Science and art, together, forever!

Anyways.

This is my Chicken Sock, and this is my Chickenblog.

Next up: Chicken Sock in the wash. Will it survive? Stay tuned!

Oh, I hope it survives! It's a perfect chicken sock. You are quite the artist... and pretty funny, too.

Funny...I thought the holes in the sock looked like eggs that had been laid!

YES!
I am rockin' the rag-art socks.
lol

Ah, thank you Judy!
The sock goes in the wash today.
If it works, maybe I should just open a sock shop!?!
I dunno... I seem to have a knack for finding silly things to do.

Moan, Natalie - you make me moany. I can't make hencakes (and yes, I've TRIED) and I know I won't be able to make chicken socks either - and I do want to. You are just too clever and have all the very best ideas - it's not fair!!

Too cute Natalie! I will have to get a post up about the feral chicken situation here on Kauai. it's truly hilarious. getting pictures of feral chickens and roosters is proving extremely difficult; those suckers are FAST. Every time I see the chickens creeping into our yard I think of you and your chicken blog!

Impossible!
I will respect your assertion that you "cannot" make hencakes, but I will make a step-by-step hencake tutorial, and then you will follow me into hencake nonsense glory!

I was on Kauai in 1999... and was smitten and amused with all those Island bantams. I guess they haven't got any tamer? What a hoot!

Adorbs! You are quite the chicken artist - and upside down even. That's serious talent.

Anxiously awaiting the wash cycle results.

I absolutely love your chicken sock! What a talent you have for drawing upside down--it's a perfect chicken. :)

That is an awesome looking chicken! I hope it survives the wash. That would be a hassle if you had to draw a new one every time you wanted to wear chicken socks!

When I saw your title, I thought you'd taken up knitting socks for those chicas!

I wonder, would it be possible, if I can learn hencakes, that I may go on to produce terrapincakes? And Darwincakes?
Hey, I bet it IS possible!
Inspiring the will to create, Natalie - thank you. Axxx

Yay for chicken socks! Now I know what to do with all those socks whose mates have mysteriously disappeared (where do they go, I suspect my dryer is eating them for a snack). I really hope they survive the wash, keep us updated as to the results.

Whole new worlds, Annie!
Whole new worlds...
It's all possible!
And then you can advise us on the fine art of making chocolate piggies... I'll explain soon!

I should maybe consider doing all my drawing upside downways... lol.

Natalie, the Chickenblogger said...

Thank you.
Whites hit the wash today... or...
okay, maybe I risk making all of our whites _yellow_
Yikes.

Natalie, the Chickenblogger said...

Hahaha... when that day comes, please lead the intervention!

Natalie, the Chickenblogger said...

Yes, yes... that way all the mismatched socks will match, because they'll all have chickens!!!
It's going to be great!
