"Wish me luck," Geoff said this morning. Of course I wish him luck, and I think of his safety and comfort. I will pine for him, and be anxious for his return, but *luck?* Good luck flying to Hawaii for a long weekend with your Mom and Corm, who love to cook for you. Good luck with your time visiting open houses and checking farm lots with fabulous ocean views and warm tropical breezes. Good luck with sunset mai tais and uninterrupted adult dialogue. We grinned at each other as he began to realize which of the two of us was really needing the luck. He'll be busy, for certain, but holding down the Tree House alone with our three adorable sons may qualify me as a likely candidate for some of that good fortune.
He may be sleeping in the lofty pineapple bed, and waking to the fragrances of frangipani and Kona coffee, and he may be enjoying the hospitality and aloha of Island life, but he'll be missing us...and we'll be missing him too.

It occurs to me that I could pretend that what I wrote Sunday was not random drivel, but metaphoric, philosophical, insightful, full of deep subtext and stuff. Why? Because it shows what can happen when we don't live in the moment, honoring the time we are in; if we don't make something beautiful of our lives right now, we may find ourselves looking back and regretting the waste. Our computers are not the only thing that may shut us down at any time. Whoa.
Kind of makes you want to order the cake first, doesn't it?
