WAMMO

Maria, Alex, Max, Natalie, William

William was born in winter, then Alex arrived late in spring. Max is our summer baby, and Maria takes autumn. Four children, one for each season. I have always loved the poetry in that... if it is poetry, or coincidence, or happenstance, or cosmic grooviness... it makes me happy. They make me happy.

And I have something so cliche to say, that it is a cliche in itself just to reflect on it: It all goes really fast! Seriously. I was warned, and I respectfully listened to aunts, and supermarket strangers who wistfully pronounced, "The time will go by, and they'll grow up before you know it." I did understand, and it did give me pause. Of course there are those long nights, up with a sick child, or early mornings scrambling to get everything packed and everyone in place... and those moments feel everlasting. But mostly, I have lived gratefully and happily in the moment, and feeling a gladness that has been the greatest joy of my life. And with the joy, astonishment, a bit of worry, too, because it is going too fast.

You are quite right; they were all quite right. And in your family, it's not just that it goes so fast but that they grow so TALL!! You look tiny-weeny...Maria will have caught you up before long. Ooops, that's back to time flying again. Enjoy the moment. Axxx

What gorgeous children you have - healthy, strong, creative and happy - a testament to amazing parenting, me thinks! And tall - holy smokes...What do you feed them?!

Gosh, it does go by so quickly! I think one of those a ha moments lead us on our adoption journey. I'm just not ready for it to all be over quite yet.

Not to worry. You can look forward to grandchildren one day. And the joy begins again!

I remember receiving those comments too as a young mother . . . and now, 34 years later, I know just how true they were! You have a beautiful family.

And I like you long skirt too. I've been thinking of making myself a couple of long skirts that are pretty for spring and summer.

I have a fall, winter and spring child (well they are in late 40's and early 50's now, and when the movie A Man For All Seasons came out I told my husband we needed a wummer baby. But I wanted to have all my kids before I turned 30. He was so glad when I finally said well too late to have a summer baby before I turn 30.

Sweet family. How lucky you are to have a birthday each season.
