Exhibition Day

June 2, Maria's junior year, and this is her first day at school. She simply could not resist, skip, or miss Exhibition Day. When it came down to it, she was nervous and hesitant. She almost didn't go, but thank goodness she did! Her first day back was about as good, as classic for her school, as one could hope. First of all, Mia came rushing up to her, Come on, she urged. You have have to see "The Thread." Maria was looking forward to seeing the school's annual literary and art magazine, and hoped she'd gotten published. Mia was so sweetly eager to let Maria see that her art made the cover, and inside pages, along with some of her writing! It was such a happy surprise for Maria, and even more special that her friend was there to share support and enthusiasm for Maria's accomplishment.
Simon and the computer he is building.
Leo came by and bought some of Maria's art.
Max V5 came over and gave Junkade a try.
Exihibition Day is an all day event at the high school, between shortened classes, when students showcase their interests, creations, skills, and hobbies. It's a phenomenal day, that includes music, skate-boarding, art, fashion, clubs demonstrating and fundraising, selling, trading, supporting. I'm sure food, and animals will come back when we are well clear of COVID. It will be so great when Culinary Arts can cook and serve, again! I think Simon instinctively knew this could be something like Maker Faire, and he signed up to exhibit right away, and that motivated Maria to go for it, too. Simon invited Maria to share his table, where he set up a few of his projects, including a Junkade Arcade game. Maria exhibited her art as stickers.
Not your typical first day of school picture! Welcome to high school, on campus, Simon! We don't spend much time thinking of all they've missed by staying home for a year and and a quarter. It's just really great to think of the time ahead, with even more appreciation for their school, peers, teachers, and community.
This has been a great school, going way back. When I was checking out more of the booths and exhibits, I discovered the senior tiles for the class of 2012! I don't know how this is the first time I see this!
Here is Suki's, and I think that might be Sammay's to the left.
It took me longer to find Alex's tile, but here it is. Whenever I think that I am getting ahead of myself anticipating Maria's senior year and graduation, I only have to reflect on Alex and Suki's last year of high school, or how quickly Max's high school years went by, and then I know... it will all come and go quickly, too quickly. Even Maria has wished that there was just one more year of high school after 12th grade. She loves her school.
Art. Fashion. Design. Mr Wright.
Math. And Paradox family. Mr Brice.
This year's Exhibition Day did not disappoint. And thank goodness there is still one more to look forward to.
Maria, your Robotics President, Lucas, and Simon.

Congratulations to Maria. She is exceptional in so many ways. So happy that she has received recognition for her talent and dedication. Also, it's great that she is back in in-person school.

Also, now the origins of Alex's JAVA have become clear. Very clever!

Thank you, Ruth. I think even the few days she was able to attend gave her a lot of pleasure, and reminded her of more things she loves about her school. She's so relieved and happy to still have one more year there.
I thought you knew about JAVA. It's a fun one!
