Five Good Things... In The City

Japanese Friendship Garden, Balboa Park~

Five years ago, when we were thinking of a good gift for Geoff's mom, Ruth, we decided we would enjoy a City Christmas... some brunch or lunch, some culture, lights... fun together in the city. We've enjoyed great music and food, our first Nutcracker Ballet, seeing Bambi in the Nutcracker, a day in Balboa Park, and this year the Park and the Zoo!

It was a brisk, clear day, and we had a wonderful time.

Good Things...

1. The city of San Diego, with Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo

2. Seasonal sights and sounds... the music from the organ pavilion, the lights in the park and city

3. Lions, and tigers, and bears, and capybaras, wombats, cheetahs, klipspringers, rock hyrax, leopards, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, condors, polar bears, wood ducks, reindeer, and conservation.

4. A ride on the Skyfari at the end of a long trail.

5. A weekend full of activities with family and friends.

Lunch at The Prado :: Alex, Bambi, Natalie, Maria, Geoff, William & Max~

Still fall color to enjoy~

Dogs and Cheetahs, together~

The Klipspringer has tiny, rounded hooves with a pad in the center that acts like a suction cup, so these nimble antelope can hop from rock to rock without falling.

It's hard to remain rational, to not want to snuggle this kitty, and then he paces and roars, and the size of him and his voice knocked some sense into me!

I love these photos, good-looking people and animals. Who is the "guy" peering over Geoff's shoulder in photo #2?

Isn't the roar of a lion something to behold? I only heard my first roar in the last 5 years. If it doesn't make you take pause, nothing will! Anyhow, a city Christmas can be fun. When we lived in Nashville, TN, we really enjoyed Christmas...that town does it right too. There are so many special things to see and do...

1. Good birthday fun on FB from new friends, old friends, and renewed friends.
2. Looking forward to dinner made for me by my big sons.
3. Got myself a separate keyboard for my laptop, which will sit in the pull-out tray, hoping it will help neck/TMJ issues.
4. Less than 2 weeks until the days start getting longer!
5. Staying warm in a beautiful scarf/shawl that I'm guessing was made in Thailand.

Speaking of lions roaring… I used to live just a few miles from Kings Island, which used to have an animal park. I could hear the lions roaring on many a morning at feeding time.
