
This is the Ameraucana hen we named Mako. She is a pretty dear, and I find her black, tufted beard charming. I brought her inside, so everyone could have a nice long look. We admired her, and adored her, and William said, "She looks like
Henry David Thoreau," and he brought up an image so we could compare the two.

Mako looks a bit stern, I know, but she's really quite docile and social. Like Thoreau, she's a happy proponent of simple living in natural surroundings. I like the comparison.
